The royal treatment begins with Italian hairstylist Isabella, aka Izzy (Laura Marano), as she reads the story of Prince Thomas (Mena Massoud) coming to New York. His attention quickly turns to a small fire that breaks out in his hair salon. With the need for expensive repairs, Izzy has no choice but to take money from her travel funds. Meanwhile, while living a life of luxury, Prince Thomas struggles to hold a real conversation as he prepares for his upcoming wedding. Then, after seeing a magazine cover of himself, Prince Thomas decides he desperately needs a haircut. Which, strangely, leads him to Izzy's hair salon. And although the two hit it off instantly, with Izzy even claiming "you're not that bad, when you're not acting like a prince", she soon returns to her normal life. Albeit only for a short period of time.
Walter (Cameron Rhodes) returns to the barbershop with an invitation for Izzy and her co-workers, Lola (Grace Bentley-Tsibuah) and Destiny (Chelsie Preston Crayford) to do their hair and makeup at the wedding in Latvia for $50,000. It's not easy, however, because Lola and Destiny's haircut skills aren't good enough. Therefore, they retrain by cutting invisible hair.

Unbeknownst to Izzy, Prince Thomas is miserable and likens his situation to an arranged marriage. To cheer Prince Thomas up, Walter suggests that he follow Izzy to the town of Latvia. As a result, Izzy and Prince Thomas eat and dance the night away. As they bond, Izzy reveals that she is a hairdresser because her mother needs her, with Prince Thomas revealing that his mother died when he was seven. The night definitely leaves its mark on Prince Thomas, as during the wedding rehearsal, Prince Thomas is unable to take his eyes off of Izzy. Even when his future wife, Lauren, discusses his "Purses for Dogs" business idea, Prince Thomas' attention remains on Izzy.
He shouldn't worry too much, as Lauren even tells her mother, Ruth LaMott (Jacque Drew), that she wouldn't care if the wedding didn't happen. After the local newspaper publishes an article suggesting Prince Thomas is having an affair with Izzy, Prince Thomas' parents force Walter to fire Izzy. After Izzy leaves, a dejected Prince Thomas seemingly decides to go ahead with the wedding, while Lola and Destiny move on with hair and makeup.
While alone with Prince Thomas and his past heartache still affecting him, Walter tells him not to marry Lauren, but rather to go after Izzy. Shortly after, Prince Thomas tells Lauren he doesn't want to marry her. To his great relief! Back in New York, after her hair salon burns down (again), Izzy becomes the director of the community center. But The Royal Treatment doesn't stop there as Prince Thomas rides a horse. He reveals that the wedding has been called off and they kiss. The film ends when Prince Thomas offers Izzy to ride a horse.
